Colnaghi and Rinicella make it an Italian double with Hankook in Assen in Eurocup-3

10 Sep 2025

Eurocup-3, the junior Formula racing series, was at TT Circuit in Assen from 8th to 10th August. Round five of the championship was also the premiere at the Dutch racetrack, and produced plenty of movement in the title race. Mattia Colnaghi initially seemed on course for his fourth win of the season in the opening race. However, Colnaghi was then handed a ten-second penalty for a false start. Despite this, his race speed on the Hankook Ventus Race was so good that he still managed to finish third. The spotlight then shifted to Valerio Rinicella, who, having previously made it onto the podium on five occasions, celebrated his first Eurocup-3 victory. In race two, Colnaghi made no mistake from pole position. He was in control for the entire race and used the optimal grip level of the Hankook tyres to set the fastest lap en route to his fourth win of the season. That success saw Colnaghi move to the top of the Eurocup-3 table on 177 points, with a lead of twelve points over Rinicella. Mexican Ernesto Rivera, who came into Assen as the championship leader, endured a difficult weekend. He left the Netherlands empty-handed and dropped back to third place in the overall standings.
